Cat

Activity ideas

  • Observe cats closely: Look at photos brought in voluntarily or videos no longer than one minute. First, children describe visible movements and postures, then offer tentative explanations.
  • Label a cat's body: Working in pairs, draw a cat and label its body parts. The children then write a sentence about the function of selected body parts.
  • Making measurements easier to picture: Use a tape measure and lengths of wool to represent the measurements in the information text. Mark the body length and tail length separately.
  • Act out considerate behavior: Use a stuffed animal to act out short situations: A cat is sleeping, withdraws, or hisses. The children think about and try out considerate ways people can respond.
  • Swap question cards: In small groups, try out the question games you have made and give feedback: Is the question clear? Does the answer fit? Can it be checked in the text?
  • Create a class exhibition: Gather fair copies, labeled drawings, and selected question cards. Each child chooses one of their own contributions and briefly presents it.
