You could, for example,

  • Measuring shadows: Measure the length of a stick’s shadow or your own shadow at three times of day. When is the shadow shortest?
  • Make a sundial: Stick a pole into a flowerpot filled with sand and mark the direction of its shadow every hour.
  • Heat experiment: Place a thermometer in the sun and in the shade and compare the temperatures.
  • Create a sun safety poster and put it up at school. It should list the most important precautions for dealing with sunlight and the sun’s rays.
