Hamsterkiste Bird Videos

1 Young blackbirds in the nest

Female blackbirds lay 5 to 5 blue-speckled eggs in a nest. The chicks hatch after about 12 to 14 days. Then a demanding time begins for the parents, because the chicks are always hungry. But after just 2 weeks, they leave the nest.

2 A blackbird bathing

Blackbirds are clean birds. When they get the chance, they bathe in puddles or in a dish of water, as they are here. They make some remarkable movements as they bathe. They are not too fussy about the water quality. Sometimes they drink the bathwater.

3 Blue Tits

Blue tits are quite common here. Their blue crowns, blue wings and tail feathers, and bright yellow breasts distinguish them from other tit species.

4 A blue tit feeds its young

Once the chicks have hatched, life gets busy for their parents. They have to keep bringing them food, as the chicks are very hungry. But they grow quickly, and the feeding period is short.

5 Eurasian coots

The Eurasian coot is a water bird. Its plumage is dark gray, with a black head and a bright white frontal shield and bill. The bird gets its name from this white “blaze.”

6 Common chaffinches

They are among the finest singers of our native birds. The females are rather inconspicuous, but the males have very colourful plumage. Are chaffinches vain?

7 A rooster and his hens

This chicken farm is home to a rooster and several hens. The breed is called Kraienköppe.

8 The Rooster Crows

Roosters are show-offs. Not only do they strut around with a magnificent comb on their heads, they also let out eerie cries from time to time—apparently to impress the hens.

9 A Hen and Her Chicks

The hen has been brooding on the eggs she laid herself for 21 days. The chicks hatched a few days ago. Their wing feathers are beginning to grow. They still have a lot to learn. But, like all young creatures, they are curious to learn.

10 Great Crested Grebes

Because they have lobed toes rather than webbed feet, they are classified as grebes. These birds can stay underwater for up to 45 seconds. They spend most of their time on the water. They can stand on land, but cannot walk.

11 Great tits

They are the largest of our tits, measuring about 13 to 15 centimeters long. They are easy to recognize by their black caps and white cheeks.

12 Robins

Robins can become quite tame. When you’re working in the garden, a robin sometimes comes by and stays nearby for a long time. If only we could talk to each other...

13 A Visit from the Sparrows

Sparrows are often called “house sparrows.” They are seen as birds that radiate luck, joy and resilience. You can see this very well in this video. They lead a carefree sparrow life, tumbling over one another and putting on an aerial show.

14 The Stork and the Mole

Storks mainly eat frogs and mice. This stork has spotted a mole, caught it in its beak and swallowed it whole. It’s not pretty—but that’s nature.

15 A swan preens itself

This swan, whether male or female, has a nest with several eggs to look after. But apparently it cares a lot about its appearance. It keeps preening its feathers. Surely it will get back to incubating the eggs at some point.

16 Black Swans

These beautiful black birds originally come from Australia. However, since some escaped after being imported for special parks, you can now admire a few black swans here too.
