This large Protestant church on Unter den Linden was consecrated in 1905. It was built at the request of the then Emperor Wilhelm II. Several members of the Hohenzollern family are buried in the so-called Hohenzollern Crypt, including the last German Emperor, Wilhelm II. However, he himself was buried in Doorn in the Netherlands, where he had fled after abdicating in 1918. The Berlin Cathedral was badly damaged during World War II. Church services have been held here again since 1993. The cathedral is 116 m high, 73 m wide and 93 m long. The dome is 33 m in diameter. The cathedral can accommodate around 1,650 people. In addition to regular church services, state ceremonies are sometimes held here. Such a ceremony might take place, for example, when a prominent former politician has died.
