Activity ideas

• The topic can be supplemented with a simple practical activity: in ten to fifteen minutes, the class can make a poster of rules for meeting unfamiliar dogs and role-play different situations without a real animal.
• The additional dog pictures allow children to compare body postures and explain their ideas about the dogs’ moods; a single feature alone is not enough to make a reliable assessment.
• Photos brought in voluntarily, or short videos of children’s own dogs (up to one minute long), can provide further topics for discussion. Children without pets can contribute questions for observation.
• A small exhibition of selected texts, research findings and images makes a good end to the week.
