Teaching notes

Practical additions:

  • Sorting autumn colours: Sort leaves by shade and collect words for matching colours.
  • Observe a branch: Photograph or draw changes over several weeks and record the date.
  • Investigating leaves: Compare and draw leaf edges and veins using magnifying glasses.
  • Discovering decomposition: Look at fresh and partially decomposed leaves and describe the differences.
  • Make a nature journal: collect observations, pressed leaves, short texts and questions.
  • Make a pile of leaves: create a potential shelter and leave it largely undisturbed until spring.
  • Create fall art: Combine a leaf landscape with a caption or your own short poem.

You can present your selected results in a small autumn exhibition.
